The Touring Car Bureau have issued a decision to limit the engine speed of the SEAT León TDI cars. From the next event in Valencia and until further notice, the engine speed of the turbo-diesel SEAT cars will be limited to 4100 revs per minute.

At the same time the Bureau confirmed the decision issued before the previous meeting in Puebla to limit the supercharged air pressure, the fuel rail pressure and the fuel/air ratio to the average maximum values measured measured with the FIA homologated data logger during the Curitiba event. This supercharged air pressure limit will be corrected by the atmospheric pressure ratio between Curitiba and Valencia.

Diesel for Farfus, Müller, Ekblom at Nürburgring

WTCC BMW-works drivers Augusto Farfus Jr and Jörg Müller will drive a diesel-powered BMW 320d in the Nürburgring 24 hours. The both will be joined by Scandinavians Fredrik Ekblom and Stian Sorlie. BMW-regulars Schubert Motors are running the car.
"The 24-hours race is ranked to be the thoughest race for man and machine. For racing drivers it is a great experience and challenge every time," said team manager Torsten Schubert.
The BMW 320d to be used in the 24-hour race this year is using the very same engine that BMW has been using in the BMW 120d for endurance racing. That model has been very successful in the Nürburgring 24-hours with a fifth place in 2006, beating a vast number of cars in higher classes.
The team Schubert Motors is running a number cars in the Nürburgring 24 hours 2008. Their main car is a BMW Z4, driven by Richard Göransson, Claudia Hürtgen, Jörg Viebahn and Sorlie. The Norwegian will have a hectic time during the race, driving both the 320d and the Z4.

Thiessen: "The problem with diesel is turbo"

The big talk in the World Touring Car Championship at the moment is if or when BMW will enter a diesel. The German manufacturer have confirmed that they are working on the engine and it has been tested in the current specification of their WTCC-racer. But BMW Motorsport-boss Mario Thiessen says it is up to the FIA if the BMW WTCC-diesel ever will se the light of day.
"It depends on the FIA whether we bring a diesel. It may be that you will never see it," said Thiessen to Motorsport Aktuell.
Recently the FIA Touring Car Bureau changed the diesel rules. The major change was that the rev limit was set to 4.100 revs. But this is not enough according to Thiessen.
"It is not enough to limit the revs. This only affects the top speed, but not the acceleration. This can only be done though a combination of regulating the lambda and turbo pressure," said Thiessen.
The staff at BMW Motorsport are currently evaluating the recent rule changes for the diesel cars. For Thiessen the main problem is the fact that a turbo is allowed.
"Our people are in the process of calculating if the new rev limit is enough. For me this is more of a problem with the turbo it self. With a turbo there is always more room for development compared to a normally aspirated engine," said Thiessen.
The race at Valencia this weekend will according to Thiessen give a good value if the changes will make a difference or not.
"Valencia will for sure make the situation clearer. If we are not pleased after the race we will talk to the FIA again," said Thiessen.

Andy Priaulx: "I want a diesel"

The reigning World Touring Car Championship champion Andy Priaulx wants BMW introduce their diesel engine soon. In a interview with Motorsport Aktuell the Brit was rarely open about what he wanted from BMW.
"Shall I tell the truth or be diplomatic? For me it is quite clear that things need to be changed. I hope that BMW also decides to run diesel," said Priaulx.
BMW are, as TouringCarTimes.com have reported on previously, developing a diesel engine but are still hesitating to introduce it.
"It depends on the FIA whether we bring a diesel. It may be that you will never see it," said BMW Motorsport boss Mario Thiessen in an earlier interview.
The next WTCC race takes place in France in two weeks on the streets of Pau, a place that Priaulx would like to use a diesel engine.
"There are a lot of uphill slopes there. The diesel car has already been tested and it is really fast," said Priaulx.
During the past WTCC-weekend at Valencia Priaulx took seventh place in the first race and third in the second - his second podium of the year.
"It has been a weekend in which I consistently looked in the mirrors and saw cars getting bigger and bigger. I am glad that I scored points here, but I wish I had more speed in qualifying and in the first race," said Priaulx.

MULLER-FARFUS WIN CLASS IN 24H RACE

BMW WTCC drivers Jörg Müller and Augusto Farfus scored an impressive result in the Nürburgring 24-Hour race. After 137 laps in the “Green Hell”, their BMW 320d crossed the finish line in 13th position overall, first in the S1 class and best of the diesel cars.
From their 47th grid position, Müller, Farfus and their Schubert Motorsport team-mates Stian Sørlie and Fredrik Ekblom soon moved up into the top-20 and then improved their position until the eventually were classified 13th, eleven laps behing the winning Porsche 911 GT3 RSR of Timo Bernhard, Marc Lieb, Romain Dumas and Marcel Tiemann.
On lap 7, Müller completed a lap in 9:33.033, setting the BMW's fastest time
